This is guide for Software Engineering Club officers and team members to follow when creating any content for the club. This includes, but is not limited to, any posts, workshops, educational material, announcements, newsletter, officer messages on DEV server(s), officer DMs while representing the club, and any other official form of communication with members or public as a club representative.
These guidelines also apply to partner announcements distributed through club's communication channels.
Officers and team members must not be policed on these guidelines outside of club's activity and their responsibilities.
The tone of speech should be respectful and appropriate for the audience. Do not make assumptions about past experiences or knowledge of the audience. Try to be somewhat informal.
It is highly recommended to develop workshops and events for people of a wide club audience. You may set explicit recommendations or limitations to the audience of club events, but they must not be physically enforced in any way for admission. I.e., you may set expectations and develop content appropriate only for a specific background level, but you must clearly communicate this expectation in advance and must not verify it for the admission.
DEV must avoid discussing the following in a biased manner (only raw facts that are relevant to the specific context may be acceptable).
This includes talking about any political parties. This is a sensitive and sometimes personal topic that can easily cause misunderstanding and conflicts.
This includes talking about any religious beliefs or theology in general. This is a sensitive and sometimes personal topic that can easily cause misunderstanding and conflicts.
Profanity in writing of any kind is prohibited.
While mild, appropriate, non-offensive use of profanity in verbal dialog is allowed, it should never be abused to keep communications professional and welcoming. Note that any insults (with or without profanity) directed to a specific person or a group of people (name calling) are still unacceptable and may cause immediate termination.
